 Foods to Strengthen Damaged Nerves

The nerves in our body act like cables that carry electrical impulses between the brain and other parts of the body. These impulses help us feel sensations and move muscles. Nerves also maintain automatic functions such as breathing, sweating, and digesting food. Nerve cells are known as neurons.

Nerves can be damaged in various ways, including accidents, excessive pressure, injuries during sports, or unexpected falls. Medical conditions like diabetes, Guillain-Barre syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis are also common causes. Autoimmune diseases can damage nerves too.

Healing damaged nerves takes a long time and requires more than just medication. Consuming foods that enhance nerve health is also essential. Here are some foods that help repair damaged nerves.

Celery:

Damaged nerves can cause severe pain. Including celery in your diet can help as it contains a compound called nervine, which soothes and restores nerves to their normal state. Drinking celery juice mixed with carrot juice can provide relief from severe nerve pain.

Oats:

Oats not only help in weight loss but also reduce nerve pain. Consuming a cup of oats in the morning provides 20% of the required daily magnesium intake, improving nerve function and aiding in the repair of damaged nerves.

Honey and Soy Milk:

Soy milk has numerous medicinal properties. Mixing soy milk with honey and consuming it can quickly relieve severe pain caused by damaged nerves. For best results, drink honey mixed with soy milk three times a day.

Garlic Milk:

Garlic milk contains anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties that provide relief from nerve pain. Crush two cloves of garlic, add them to 1/2 cup of milk, boil it, and drink. Alternatively, crush two cloves of garlic, mix with warm mustard oil, and massage the painful area to reduce pain and heal damaged nerves.

Vitamin B12 Foods:

Vitamin B12 plays a crucial role in maintaining nerve cells and repairing damaged nerves. People suffering from nerve pain should include more vitamin B12-rich foods in their diet. Foods rich in vitamin B12 include liver, mackerel, shrimp, and salmon.

Antioxidant Foods:

Antioxidants help prevent nerve damage caused by free radicals. People with nerve issues should consume antioxidant-rich foods like blueberries, raspberries, tomatoes, red grapes, garlic, spinach, carrots, pomegranate, dark chocolate, green tea, blackberries, and broccoli to heal nerve problems and reduce the risk of cancer.

Omega-3 Fatty Acid Foods:

Omega-3 fatty acids are found in flax seeds, walnuts, soybeans, shrimp, fish, tofu, and more. Their anti-inflammatory properties help reduce inflammation that causes nerve damage. People with nerve problems will benefit from consuming these foods.
